A successful first for the Global Citizen Festival in Ghana

For the first time in its history, Accra has been chosen as the host city to host the Global Citizen Festival, a free event where artists and their fans, activists and business leaders come together for a common goal: to contribute to end to extreme poverty.

Two gigantic concerts were organised, one in New York’s Central Park where Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, Maneskin, Mariah Carey, SZA respectively performed and the other which took place simultaneously in Accra on the mythical scene of Black Star Square with African celebrities like Stonebwoy, Gyaki, Tems, Tiwa Savage, this on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the country’s independence on September 24th.

Another characteristic of this festival: it is always organized on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The objective of the organization being to fight against poverty, it is a question of arousing the commitment of the political leaders of the whole world especially in this period of crisis, which accentuates the fragility of several populations on the globe.

It is therefore a way to engage decision-makers and obtain political and financial commitments from governments, companies and philanthropists to overcome poverty, demand equity and defend the planet.
